Horse Trails
The trails are endless in Southwestern North Dakota. Whether you are on the Maah Daah Hey Trail, Paddock Creek, or one of the many other winding ledges, the view is spectacular. Load your horse up and head out for a day of enjoyment.
There are plenty of trails for all levels of riding. Schnell Recreation Areaoffers the gentle, rolling hills and wooded draws, while the Little Missouri State Park offers a dramatic view and a choice of challenging marked trails.

Little Missouri National Grasslands The badlands and grasslands offer breathe taking scenery with rugged adventure. Over 1 million acres of public land provide prairie flora and wildlife viewing. Ride the land, enjoy the solitude and take in the rolling prairies, majestic buttes, cliffs and winding roads bringing you to the next spectacular view. Campgrounds are available, check the web site for particular amenitites.

Little Missouri State Park Some of the most rugged Badlands terrian in the state. Most of the park is accessable only by horseback or hiking. More than 30 miles of marked trails crisscross the 5,749 acre park with mapping information available. Corrals are provided along with guided tours and horse rentals also available.

Maah Daah Hey Trail A 97-mile non motorized trail open for hiking, biking and horseback riding. The trail begins at Sully Creek State Recreation Area, approximately five miles south of historic Medora, and meanders north through the South and North units of Theodore Roosevelt National Park and the Little Missouri National Grassland. Four fenced overnight campsites with hitching posts, vault toilets and campfire rings are located along the trail. Open all year, the trail can become impassable due to snow, ice, high water or mud.

Schnell Recreation Area 2,000 acres of native prairie and wooded draws set aside for recreation, wildlife habitat and environmental education. Camping, hiking, wildlife viewing, horseback trails, cross-country skiing, mountain biking. Corrals available.

Theodore Roosevelt National Park The south unit of the park features more than 80 miles of marked trails, plus countless unmarked trails. Riders are permitted in all areas of the park, except camping and picnicing areas and nature trails. A horse campground is available in the south unit by reservation; backcountry horse camping is allowed. Horse rentals and guided trail rides are available.
